We may not have been around the world, but we really saw many beautiful places. We had great food and bad food, we slept in comfortable hotelbeds and on the floor. We fell asleep during sightseeing and on other travels our heart beat faster when walking around. We took pictures of hotelrooms, our dinnerplates and the surrounding. Now it is time to give something back and let you guys know how WE live, sleep and cook. We spend a weekend at home. This is a very special post for our fellow twitter followers. Come on in.
After a long Friday of work and an empty fridge, it was time for some serious grocery shopping. With loaded bags, we walked home when the adventure of our home sweet home-weekend began. We nearly missed the funny sight directly in front of our door. Jenke saw it first. These two cute dogs (see picture to the left) were sitting in a Smart car, looking moony into one direction. So funny. Ater we took some pictures, other people stopped too and took out their mobile phones to save this great moment. Can it get any better? That's what we thought too, when....
... we realized we forgot some vegetables for dinner so Jenke took all the bags upstairs (what a Gentleman!) while Angie went to the greengrocers, a small shop just around the corner of our house. It is run by a persian lady and her son, they work all day in their business, starting a 6 o'clock in the morning to do the shopping at the big market until 22h when they are finished the cleaning. They are doing such a great job. Angie entered and was overwhelmed by the tempting smell from the sideroom. The persian lady was just done prepraring their dinner. "Hey that smells fantastic!" said Angie and within seconds, she was handed a plate with persian chicken with potatos. What a bliss! It was so yummy bot so hard not to eat it all. ;-)
Upstairs, back home Jenke prepaired a nice dinner, a typcial German and very hefty dish: Roulades with homemade Spaetzle with a fresh cucumber salat. Not really meeting any strict diet plans, okay. But really very tasty. With it, we had also a very special German wine, called Federweisser. I found an English explanation for it: "The cloudy beverage in the process of fermenting, i.e. somewhere in between must and wine, is called Federweisser, Bitzler, Rauscher or Sauser (no English-language equivalents). Once fermentation has ended, it is referred to as "young" wine." (Dict.Leo.org). Got it? if not make sure to vistit Germany during September and make sure you have one.
That was a perfect dinner. Recipes for German food and lessons in Spaetzle making can be requested directly at us ! So if you ever are in Cologne, let us know. :o) So, after some working on new posts for REISEFREUNDE, blogging, tweeting, preparing Jenke's new facebook side for his new TV-series (Check at Facebook for "Jenke- Das Experiment") and some reading (Angie: a book of the writer and journalist Andreas Altmann about his great travels and Jenke a book of Roland Garve, a German dentist who visits indige people and mediactes them for free) we fell asleep. And now a very exclusive look into our bedroom - see RIGHT......
On Saturdays, when the sun is not shining, the best thing for us to do is: sleep very very long. So we got up at 12 o'clock and made some nice German breakfast, which is really huge (at least when we make it). Mostly with homemade jam (today on the menu: plum-pear-ginger jam and almond-mango-apricot jam), poached eggs, some warm croissants or homemade bread, several different cheeses, German cold cuts for Jenke (too much meat for Angie for breakfast), yoghurt with fresh fruits, a freshly squeezed juice and of course a huge café latte. Doesn't that look just perfect? A real Coldplay Yellow breakfast. To those who know the live version: "if you stand up I buy you all icecream"...
Angie then was a very lucky girl as Jenke did all the cleaning (we had to fire our cleaning lady four weeks ago and still couldn't find anyone new) while she could do some tweeting and blogging. Finally, as a surprise the sun said hello and we jumped straight into the car to head to the neartest forest to go on a mushroom foray. Jenke has some experience in classifying them, but as we had some strange adventure with one single mushroom last year, we became a little more cautious and now triple check with three mushroom books. Anyhow, we enjoy being outside in the nature and that is what counts.
Back home, we could not believe how many mushrooms we had in our bag. It was unbelievable - clearly too much. But nevertheless we then again had a perfect dinner (so far there are no toxic reactions so I can still write) and a perfect ending for this perfect day.
We say good bye for now, ciao, au revoir and tschüss - hope you had a nice time with us.
